Privacy Policy
Daily HSK is a Chinese-learning app for iPhone. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The short version: we run no servers and collect nothing. Your learning data stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own private iCloud.
Data the app stores
- Learning progress — which words and grammar points you have studied, review schedules, streaks, XP, saved words and sentences you have read.
- Preferences — HSK level, simplified/traditional script, daily goal, pinyin and translation display options, speech rate, widget and reminder schedule, and the optional first name you enter during onboarding.
This data is stored on your device in the app's private container. It is also readable by the Daily HSK widget on the same device.
iCloud sync
If Sync progress with iCloud is on (Settings → Account), the data above is mirrored to the private CloudKit database of your Apple Account so it follows you across your devices. Only you can read this data; the developer has no access to it and never receives a copy. You can pause syncing at any time. iCloud is a service of Apple Inc. and is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Data we do not collect
- No accounts, passwords or e-mail addresses — your Apple Account acts as your account.
- No analytics, advertising identifiers, crash reporting or tracking of any kind.
- No third-party SDKs. The app makes no network requests other than to Apple's iCloud when sync is on.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
On-device features
- Sentence audio uses Apple's speech synthesis (AVSpeechSynthesizer). Text is not sent to us.
- Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device; nothing leaves the device.
- Widgets read the same on-device data to show your daily words on the Lock Screen and Home Screen.
Deleting your account and data
Open Settings → Account → Delete account & data. This immediately erases all learning progress and preferences from the device and deletes the copy in your private iCloud database. There is nothing further for the developer to delete because no data is held on our side. You can also remove the iCloud copy from iOS Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage → Daily HSK, and uninstalling the app removes all on-device data.
Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date.
